About
A money coach that respects your privacy.
Frichie is a private money coach for the UAE — think WHOOP for your money. It reads your bank’s SMS messages on your iPhone, turns them into a budget, a safe-to-spend number, and a savings plan — without ever asking for your bank login or sending your raw messages anywhere.
Why we built it
If you bank in the UAE, your phone buzzes every time you tap your card — dozens of AED receipts a week, all swiped away unread. At the end of the month, the money’s gone and you can’t quite say where. The texts that could explain it are the ones you ignore.
Most budgeting apps answer that by asking for your bank login and pulling your whole financial life into their cloud. We didn’t want to build that. Those texts already arrive on your phone — so the parsing, the categorizing, and the coaching can all happen there too, where your data belongs.
And tracking is only half the job. Knowing you spent AED 6,000 doesn’t help if you still don’t know whether you can afford dinner tonight. So Frichie does the part a spreadsheet never will: it coaches. It tells you what’s safe to spend until payday, catches the subscriptions quietly draining you, and keeps your savings goals on pace.
What “coach” actually means
We borrowed the idea from fitness wearables. A good coach doesn’t just log the run — it tells you whether to push or rest today. Frichie does that for money:
- Safe to spend. After your bills, commitments, and goals are set aside, Frichie shows the one number that’s genuinely free to spend — and a daily pace so you don’t run out before payday.
- Found money. It spots recurring charges — the free trial that started billing, the app you forgot, a subscription whose price crept up — so you can cancel what you don’t use.
- Goals with a pace line. Saving for a trip or a rainy-day fund? Name it and a date, and Frichie works out the monthly target and shows whether you’re ahead or behind.
- A month at a glance. A flat, colour-coded treemap where each category is sized by what you spent — the big tiles are where your money really goes.
What makes it different
On-device first
- Your raw bank SMS is parsed and categorized on your iPhone.
- Transactions, budgets, and history sync only through your own iCloud.
- No bank login. Frichie is read-only and can’t move money.
Smart, but minimal
- Tricky purchases are sorted by sending only a redacted {merchant, band, type} note.
- Logos come from a merchant’s domain or name — never your amounts.
- No ads, no third-party tracking, no data brokers.
Built for the UAE. Frichie speaks AED, understands local banks and merchants, and states every total in your home currency — foreign-currency purchases are converted for you, offline, so the month always adds up.
Our philosophy
Privacy isn’t a policy we bolt on at the end — it’s the architecture. The app is built so the sensitive parts of your financial life physically can’t leave your device, and the few things that do leave are tiny and redacted by design. We’d rather a feature be a little harder to build than ask you to trust us with data you don’t need to share.
We’re honest about the friction, too: setting up the Shortcut takes a couple of minutes in Apple’s Shortcuts app, and iOS shows a brief banner each time a text logs itself. We don’t hide that — it’s the price of capturing your spending without a bank login, and we think it’s worth it.
Want the details on exactly what stays and what leaves? Read the privacy policy — it’s written to be specific, not boilerplate.
